Two outlawed party men killed in Satkhira gunfight

Two members of outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party have been killed in a gunfight with police in Rohimabadh village under Tala upazila of Satkhira district. The deceased are Bidyut Bahini chief Bidyut Bachhar, son of Kanai Bachhar of Moguradanga village, and his associate Sheikh Talha, son of Nur Islam of Shujonshaha village. Tala OC Hassan Hafizur Rahman said: "Acting on a tip-off, two teams of police conducted a drive in the area to arrest the outlawed men around 3:30am on Sunday. "Sensing our presence, they opened fire at us. They also hurled bombs." In retaliation, police fired back that triggered the gunfight. At one stage, two of them were caught in the line of fire while the others managed to flee the scene. Two policemen were also injured in the incident. Police also recovered two firearms, four improvised bombs and a machete from the spot. The OC said: "Bidyut is an accused in 14 cases while Talha is accused in a violence case." Bidyut’s nephew, on the other hand, claimed that Detective Branch (DB) of Police picked up his uncle from their village home on Wednesday.
