Housewife allegedly killed by husband in Meherpur

A woman has been killed, allegedly by her husband, in Meherpur’s Gangni upazila.

The incident happened at the Khashmahal village of the upazila on Thursday night.

The deceased was identified as Jahanara Khatun, 30, daughter of Ahmed Ali Khan.

Jahanar’s relatives caught her husband, Rezaul Haque, and handed over him to the police.

The relatives said that a dispute between the deceased and her husband resulted in Jahanara returning to her father’s house. Rezaul then went to Jahanara’s father’s home on Thursday night to retrieve her.

On the way back to their home he strangled her and severed her head, in the Tahajer Pukurpar area, her relatives said.

Gangni police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Horendro Nath Sarker has confirmed the news.

He said: “The body was recovered and sent to the morgue for an autopsy. A case has also been filed at the police station. Right now, we are not clear about what actually caused the death. We have to wait for the investigation to end, to know the truth.”
