Gold smuggler remanded for two days

A Dhaka Court grants two-day remand of a gold smuggler on Tuesday after Customs Intelligence Investigation Directorate placed the miscreant before the court. Customs officials detained the smuggler with 8 gold bars weighing 884 grams from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday. CIID DG Moinul Khan confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune. The detainee Nabab Salimullah, a resident of Narsingdi Sadar upazila, was carrying 800 grams of gold bar, 50 grams of raw gold and 34 grams of gold jewelry. The CIID officials said the intelligence kept an eye on the smuggler based on previous information. Later, the gold was found as a wrapping over a charger light’s battery during the CIID’s interrogation.
