RAB rescues child, arrests 2 kidnappers

Members of the police's Rapid Action Battalion have arrested two people and rescued a child the latter had kidnapped three days earlier. The arrestees are Beauty Akter and Abdul Malek. The child, Sakib, was rescued from Malek's house during a drive around 2am on Tuesday, RAB media wing Assistant Director Mizanur Rahman confirmed to the Dhaka Tribune. Sakib's father is a day labourer while his mother works as a house help. They live in Agargaon BNP slum. Beauty, who lives near Sakib's shanty, kidnapped the child and kept him at Malek's house in Manikganj. Beauty then demanded Tk10,000 as ransom from Sakib's parents, the official said. "RAB investigated the matter based on a complaint filed by the couple and arrested Beauty from Agargaon on Monday. Sakib was rescued based on information she gave in a primary interrogation," he said, adding that they would continue the investigation to find other members of the gang.
