Malaysian held with gold worth Tk3.50cr at Dhaka airport

A Malaysian has been detained with gold worth Tk3.50 crore at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka.

Customs Intelligence detained Chan Gi Kyong, 47, after he arrived in Bangladesh on a Malindo Air flight, around 10pm, on Sunday. 

He is a resident of Selangor, Putrajaya, Malaysia.

Othello Chowdhury, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Customs House, said Kyong was detained with 7kg of gold worth Tk3.50 crore. 

She said the gold bars, weighing 1kg each, were hidden in his specialized jacket and were wrapped in carbon paper.
