Father, uncle detained after child found dead in Chuadanga

A man and his brother have been detained in Chuadanga after a three-year-old girl was found dead inside a septic tank. Police retrieved the body of Mukta from Ishwar Chandarpur village on Thursday. Locals identified the child's father as Ali, a van puller, and her uncle as Nasir Uddin. Police say they suspect Mukta was tortured to death and later dumped in the septic tank. Mukta was last seen going to a nearby field to play on Wednesday afternoon. A nightlong search yielded no result. In the morning, locals became suspicious of a partially open septic tank in Nasir Uddin's backyard and contacted police. Police recovered Mukta’s body from there and sent it to Chuadanga Hospital for autopsy. Damurhuda police station Officer-in-Charge Abu Jihad Md Fakhrul Alam Khan said Mukta's body bore signs of torture. “We believe she was dumped in the tank after being murdered. We have arrested Mukta’s father Ali and uncle Nasir suspecting their role in the murder,” he said.
