A youth has been beaten to death by an angry mob on suspicion of theft in the Dakkhin Banasree area of Khilgaon.
The deceased has been provisionally identified as Manik, aged around 26. Details about him could not be confirmed immediately.
Police and locals said that the critically injured youth was rushed to Mugda General Hospital after he had been beaten allegedly for stealing a bicycle around 2pm.
Hospital authorities pronounced him dead on arrival and the body was later sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for an autopsy.
"We have detained two persons for their suspected involvement in the incident," Sub-Inspector Monir Hossain of Khilgaon police told the Dhaka Tribune.
