The Detective Branch (DB) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) has arrested two brothers in possession of 1.3 million pieces of yaba pills worth around Tk45 crore from Halishahar area in the city.
The arrestees were identified as 47-year-old Ashraf Ali and 22-year-old Mohammad Hassan.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of the DB police conducted a drive on the third floor of ZS Angles Building at Shyamoli Residential Area in Halishahar on Friday.
About 300,000 pieces of yaba pills were recovered from their house concealed in two sacks and 1 million pieces were recovered from their private car.

Dhaka TribuneCMP Additional Deputy Commissioner Alak Biswas said Ashraf, the elder brother, brought in a number of yaba consignments by sea from Myanmar with the help of an acquaintance he met during his stay in Saudi Arabia in 1998.
"On April 30, Ashraf set out from Yangon in Myanmar with a consignment of yaba pills on a trawler," said Alak.
"Later, he headed for Chattogram from Saint Martin's Island with a speedboat. The speedboat sunk in the Kutubdia Channel, on which the sacks of yaba pills were recovered with the help of local fishermen and brought to Dhaka on May 2."
