Last militant of Nakhalpara hideout identified

The last among the three militants who were killed in a raid in West Nakhalpara, Dhaka on January 12 has been identified by one of his siblings. Robin Mia, 17, from Nokla upazila in Sherpur, was identified by his elder brother Golam Mostofa, confirmed Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) 3 Commanding Officer Lt Col Imranul Hasan on Sunday.

“Robin, the youngest member of the family, stole Tk5,000 from his brother’s shop and left home on January 7 without informing anyone of his family,” the RAB official said. "Robin studied up to Class VI at Shohoriya Dakhil Madrasa in Sherpur and left the institution in 2013," he added. According to Golam Mostofa, Robin had been addicted to the internet and social media for the last five years. He used to post in the pages of religious extremist groups in social media and communicate with the other members of those groups.

Another militant of Nakhalpara hideout, Nafis Ul Islam from Chittagong, went to Robin’s Sherpur house about three months ago and stayed a night over there. Nafis left the house as soon as Robin’s family grew suspicious of him. The third militant was identified as Mezba Uddin from Comilla. The trio were killed in a gunfight with RAB in a JMB den only 500 metres away from the Prime Minister's Office on January 12.
