Motive behind MP Liton murder yet to be ascertained

Although several teams of law enforcement agencies are working to find out the killers, no concrete results have come yet. On Saturday, MP Liton was shot at his home around 5:45pm and pronounced dead at Rangpur Medical College Hospital around 7:30pm. Doctors said Liton had two chest wounds and three on his right arm. He died of excessive bleeding. Yesterday morning, Director Inspector General of Police, Rangpur range Khandakar Golam Faruk and Gaibandha Police Super held a meeting with members of law enforcers. Officer-in-Charge of Sundorganj police station Atiar Rahman said police had arrested three people for their alleged involvement with the killing. With the trio, police have arrested 35 people in connection with the killing so far. Sources at police who preferred to be unnamed told the Dhaka Tribune that dividing into several groups, police were conducting investigation of the case. Police are considering five aspects – financial,  family dispute, political rivalry, enmity with Jamaat-Shibir and militancy – in the investigation. While talking to journalists, Khushid Jahan Smitri, wife of the MP, said Jamaat-Shibir was behind the killing of her husband. Fahmida Bulbul Kakoli, complaint of the case and elder sister of the deceased, said: “We just want justice for my brother. The law enforcers should bring the killers to book whoever they are.” Tauhida Bulbul, another sister of the lawmaker, said: “We are facing security problems, as some people over phone are threatening us.” Meanwhile, demonstration protesting the murder of the lawmaker continued on the day. Gaibandha district unit Awami League brought out procession and held a rally where people from all walk of life took part. Sundorganj unit Awami League senior vice-president Jahangir Alam, its general secretary Golam Mostafa Ahmed and Sundarganj municipality mayor Abdullah Al Mamun, among others, took part in the programme. They also demanded speedy trial of the killing case. Meanwhile, President of Kirshak Shramik Jonota League Bangabir Kader Siddqui said: “When a lawmaker was shot dead at his home, It is obvious  that people of the country are not safe.” During his visit, he also met family members of the victim. The administration should take the murder seriously and take prompt measures, he said.
