Assam police arrests 3 Bangladeshi human traffickers in Sonamura

Assam police arrested three Bangladeshi nationals in Sonamura, Tripura on Monday night, suspected to be involved in human trafficking. The police, with due approval from the Tripura police, was conducting a search operation along the Indo-Bangla border when they arrested the trio, said sources at Sipahijala district police in Tripura on Tuesday. The suspects were identified as Faruk Hossain Chowdhury, Shahjalal Mia Chowdhury and Suman Chowdhury, the sources added. A team of Assam police, led by Manoj Rajbongshi, conducted the raid based on information they received from six other Bangladeshis who had been arrested last month. The six Bangladeshis were among the passengers travelling from Agartala to Guwahati on a bus. Churaibari police, led by OC Kalipada Dey, flagged down the bus near the Assam-Tripura border and arrested the six when they could not produce valid documents. Later, during interrogation, the detainees confessed that they were from Kutupalong in Bangladesh's Cox's Bazar district. Sipahijala Police Superintendent Sudipto Das told the Dhaka Tribune: “Those three were arrested [on Monday night] for human trafficking, based on information collected by the Assam police. This information was revealed upon interrogations of six more individuals already detained under the custody of Assam’s Karimganj police.”
