A schoolgirl has raised allegations of sexual harassment and tortures against a stepson of a police officer in Khulna.
Speaking to journalists, the girl’s elder sister, Shurouvi, a student of Khulna City Polytechnic, alleged that Emon, stepson of Sub-inspector Bulbul Ahmed of Khalishpur police station, used to stalk and hurl vulgar words at her sister on her way to school.
She also said Emon, who studies at the same school with her sister, got even more furious after they brought the matter to his parents’ attention.
Shurouvi accused Emon of beating her sister on Saturday at the school. “We informed the matter to the headmaster. But it was all hushed up, with Emon’s stepfather being a police official,” she alleged.
Families of the girl and her accused stalker Emon have been residing at a same building at Mujgunni in Khulna town.
On Monday, after forcibly entering their flat, Emon and his mother beat the girl, her mother Nargis Akter Panna and sister Shurouvi, leaving them injured, according to the victims.
Later, they received treatment at Khulna General Hospital in the town.
Nargis and her husband Abdul Mannan Munna alleged that someone from the police station was now intimidating and threatening them with severe consequences after they had complained to the police on Tuesday and informed the matter to journalists.
“I along with my daughters have moved to my sister’s home in fear of retribution from the defence, as the police, despite being informed of the matter, are not taking actions against the accused,” Nargis said.
Contacted, SI Bulbul said: “I was not at home on Monday, when the incident took place. There might have been some sort of heated exchange between my family and Munna’s.”
Md Nasim Khan, officer-in-charge of the police station, said: “Both families had filed separate complaints with us. An officer has already been tasked with investigating the matter. Steps will be taken after we receive the report.”
