Suspected criminal killed in Kushtia ‘gunfight’

A gunman has been killed in a "gunfight" with police in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia district. The deceased is Teni, 27, son of Alam Mondol, of Aria union's Chatardara village in the upazila. Daulatpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shah Dara Khan, confirming the information, said: "Acting on a tip-off of a criminal gathering, we conducted a drive led by Sub-inspector (SI) Rahim at Pipulbaria-Baliadanga ground area on Daulatpur-Katlamari road around 4am on Tuesday. "Sensing our presence, the miscreants opened fire on our vehicle," he added. The police fired back in retaliation that left Teni injured. The OC said Teni was declared dead after being taken to a Daulatpur hospital. He said family members and locals identified the deceased militant, who was an accused in several cases including murder. Police recovered a foreign-made pistol, a magazine and two rounds of bullets from the spot.
