Charges pressed against 11 Hamza Brigade men

RAB on Wednesday night submitted the charge sheet against 11 members of Chittagong-based militant outfit Shaheed Hamza Brigade in a case filed over the recovery of explosives from the district’s Halishahar area last year.

The 11 are Faizul Haque, his younger brother Azizul Haque, sister Rahima Akhter, nephew Jayedullah, Abdul Hai, Hamza Brigade’s military wing chief Moniruzzaman alias Don, Anwar Hossain, Md Shamsuddin, Rakib Hasan, Nasir Uddin Khan and

Md Parvez.

RAB 7 Assistant Superintendent of Police Md Jalal Uddin Ahmed submitted the charge sheet to the Metropolitan Magistrate Court as the investigation ended.

“All 11 except Parvez are now behind bars. Parvez is on the run,” said RAB 7 Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Mifta Uddin Ahmed.

Mifta said ten of the accused confessed in court that they accumulated the explosives to carry out subversive acts and a Dubai citizen, Allama Libdi, had funded their organisation.

“Libidi was not named in the charge sheet as his details could not be known.”

RAB busted Hamza Brigade’s warehouse at Golden Residential area in Halishahar on February 29 last year. A large amount of bomb-making materials, 76 powerful bombs and 150 kilogrammes of explosives were recovered during the raid.

RAB said Hamza Brigade was formed in November 2013 by former members of Islami Chhatra Shibir Hefazat-e-Islam and other militant groups.
