ASI remanded over shooting cable operator

A Dhaka court has granted investigators five days to interrogate an assistant police sub-inspector over the shooting of a cable operator in Dhaka's Khilgaon.

Metropolitan Magistrate Pronab Kumar Bhui gave the order yesterday after investigation officer Md Anwar Hossain sought court permission to question ASI Shamim Reza for 10 days in custody.

ASI Shamim of Bangshal police station shot cable operator Al-Amin on Friday after a heated argument over paying cable bills. Doctors at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital said the bullet hit Al-Amin in the abdomen and passed through the body. He was discharged shortly.

Bangshal police took him in custody after the incident and handed him over to Khilgaon police. Lalbagh division Joint Commissioner Mofiz Uddin told the Dhaka Tribune that Shamim had been suspended.

Khilgaon police OC Monirul Islam said they had seized a revolver from Shamim's possession and that they would take actions against him after investigation.
