JMB man killed in city 'gunfight'

A member of banned Islamist militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) has been killed in a "gunfight" with DB police in Khilgaon area of the capital early Tuesday.

Deceased Pias became the chief of JMB's military wing in Dhaka after the death of JMB leaders Noman and Hiron, police said.

Mashrukur Rahman Khaled, deputy commissioner of DB (south), said they Pias opened fire at the DB personnel when they conducted a drive near Khidmah Hospital in Khilgaon around 3:30am Tuesday.

"In retaliation, police fired back that left Pias injured. He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead," he added.

Police also recovered one pistol, three rounds of bullets and three hand made bombs from the spot.
