A youth has been beaten to death with hammer allegedly by his colleague at a furniture shop at Rangunia upazila in Chittagong district.
The deceased was identified as Md Delwar, 26, son of Md Abul Kalam of Purba Kodala village under Raykhali of Joynagar area of the upazila, said police sources.
Delwar was a carpenter at a furniture shop of Mohammedpur area, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Arman Hossain of Rangunia police station,
The SI told the Dhaka Tribune that in the morning, a brawl was ensued between Delwar and his colleague Iskandar while Delwar talking over phone at around 9:30am on Monday.
“Iskander barred him from speaking over phone. At one point of their altercation, Delwar was hit on his head with hammer, leaving him critically injured”, said the SI.
Sayed Nazrul Islam, an official of Rangunia Health Complex, said Delwar was left in front of the health complex unconsciously at around 10am while he died after few minutes at the hospital.
SI Arman said being informed by the health complex employees police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue for autopsy.
Police also went to the furniture shop to detain alleged killer Iskandar but he went into hiding soon after the incident, added the SI.
A case was filed in this connection.
