Railway staff put on remand for snatching

A Chittagong court yesterday placed an official of Railway Nirapatta Bahini on a two-day remand for his alleged involvement in gold bar snatching from a trader.

Md Mesbah, in-charge of the Pahartali railway station outpost, was produced before the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Mahmudul Hasan. 

Moshiur Rahman, inspector of Chittagong court, said the court granted a two-day remand against a seven-day remand prayer.

Earlier, the accused RNB official was suspended from service for his alleged involvement with snatching of gold bars.

Mentionable that Palash Nandy and Bishwajit, employees of Bishwakarma Bullion at Hazari Lane of the city went to Chittagong railway station for going to Dhaka with 205 tolas of gold bars on Monday morning. However, they could not get on the train and went to Pahartali railway station later.

Some persons identifying themselves as members of Detective Branch of the police took them to nearby RNB outpost and snatched the gold bars during frisking.

Later, Palash Nandy filed a case accusing three persons for snatching the gold bars.
