A Chittagong court yesterday placed five members of banned Islamic outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) on one-day remand in a mugging case filed in 2015.
They were Bulbul Ahmed Sarkar alias Fuad, Shah Jahan Kajol, Minhajul Islam Sajid, Nurunnabi Raju and Mahbubur Rahman Khokon.
The court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Nurul Alam Nipu passed the remand order after the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case produced the five JMB men before the court with three-day remand prayer in Sadarghat mugging case,” Metropolitan Magistrate (CMP)’s Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) (prosecution) Kazi Muttaki Ibn Minan said.
On September 23, 2015, a team of JMB activists blasted several grenades while mugging a local businessman named Satya Gopal in Majirghat area of Sadarghat that left two JMB men killed.
During investigation of the bomb blast, police found JMB’s involvement. They arrested five JMB members, including Towfiqul Islam Javed, 22, head of the outfit’s explosive wing, in the city’s Khoyajnagar area on October 5, last year.
The police also recovered nine handmade grenades, ammunition and a massive amount of explosives from his possession.
