Missing AL men found dead

Police yesterday recovered the body of local Juba League leader Md Russell from a pond beside of Motaleb Chairman Brick field in Ramganj of the district. Russell went missing on the night of February 3.

A group of police led by Sub-Inspector Md Zahirul Islam chased him as he ran away when police stopped his motorcycle near the brick field.

Russell was the president of ward 9 unit of Juba League in the upazila.

Lilu, sister of Russell, said Russell had hurriedly left home receiving a phone call and when they contacted Russell’s friends they them that he was fine and was not arrested by police.

“We looked for him as he did not return home the next night,” she said Around 9am, locals while fishing found his body floating on the pond and informed police. The police recovered the body around noon.

Some friends of Russell said a sub-inspector was threatening Russell of putting him crossfire for following an aspiring Union Parishad chairman candidate Zahidul Islam Jewel.

The officer-in-charge of Ramganj police refused to make any comment.

Shariful Islam, additional superintendent of police, said legal steps would be taken against people involved with the incident after investigating information provided by locals.
