Now 24kg gold seized at Dhaka airport

Members of the Custom Intelligence and Investigation in two separate drives recovered gold weighing around 25.5kg last night from the Dhaka airport.

The consignments, worth around Tk12.75 crore, were found in abandoned condition, said Shamim Ur Rahman, deputy director of the custom intelligence. They conducted the drives based on information, he added.

The first consignment was recovered from a flight of Regent Airways coming from Chittagong. The detectives found 2.3kg gold under the dustbin of a toilet.

The second consignment of 23.2kg gold was found after searching a flight of Malaysia Airlines under a seat in 10 bundles, each having 20 bars.

On January 19, customs officials seized another consignment of around 12kg gold from a Regent Airways flight at the airport. Price of the gold was estimated to be Tk6 crore. Two people were detained for their suspected involvement in the smuggling of the gold.
