A local court has sentenced five years in jail to the mastermind of the sensational Kishoreganj bank burglary.
Kishoreganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Hamidul Islam on Tuesday night handed down the verdict to Habibur Rahman alias Yusuf Munshi who is also vastly known as Sohel.
In line with the rigorous imprisonment, the court also fined the convict Tk5,000, in default, he will have to suffer five months in jail.
The punishment appeared as Sohel pleaded his guilty during the case’s charge framing and finally his three accomplices were made accused there and the court fixed date for next hearing, said Sadar model police station OC Mir Mosharraf Hossain.
According the case statement, 26 January last year, a gang of miscreants led by Sohel had looted Tk16.40 crore from the vault of Rathkhola branch of Sonali Bank through an underground tunnel.
