Members of Detective Branch (DB) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) in a drive have arrested another suspected member of banned militant Islamic outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from Noakhali district early Monday.
Md Nurunabi Raju, 30, was arrested in a case filed with Sadarghat police station following a mugging incident carried out by JMB in Chittagong city’s Majirghat area on September 23 last, DB’s Sub-Inspector (SI) Sontosh Chakma told the Dhaka Tribune.
Till filing this report at around 4pm, Nurunnabi Raju was giving confessional statement under section 164 of Criminal Procedure Code before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Nowrin Akhtar Kakon, said CMP’s Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kazi Muttaki Ibn Minan (prosecution).
DB’s Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kusum Dewan told the Dhaka Tribune that “a team of DB arrested Raju from Sultanpur area under Begumganj upazila of Noakhali at around 3am”.
Raju is an active member of JMB who had taken part at the mugging operation directly driving the motorbike while he was absconding soon after the incident at his father-in-law house in Noakhali, added the DC Kusum Dewan.
During primary interrogation Raju admitted his involvement with Sadarghat mugging incident and told the other associates’ name to the police, added SI Sontosh.
On September 23, a team of JMB activists had blasted several grenades while mugging a local businessman named Satya Gopal in Majirghat area of Sadarghat, which killed two JMB men during the incident.
