The High Court yesterday accepted an appeal filed by Oishee Rahman challenging the verdict that sentenced her to death for killing her parents.
The HC also stayed a fine of Tk20, 000 slapped along with the death penalty by a lower court in the murder case.
The HC bench of Justice M Moazzam Husain and Justice Md Badruzzaman passed the order yesterday, Oishee’s lawyer Mahbub Hasan Rana said.
Rana said they told the court that the DNA test which was conducted to detect Oishee’s age was not proper. The death sentence and the fine should be stayed until the appeal is not disposed.
The appeal was filed seeking her acquittal of the charges on Sunday considering her age.
Oishee also challenged the trial proceedings of the case saying that the speedy trial tribunal cannot try a child as she was 17 years old during the killing incident.
She also prayed for bail from the High Court.
