Robber killed in gunfight with Brahmanbaria cops

An alleged robber has been killed in a reported shootout between his accomplices and police on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Kharera Golasar area of Kosba upazila here early Wednesday.

Besides, Kosba police station Assistant Sub-Inspector Md Faroque Miah and Constable Ashiqul Islam sustained bullet injuries in the gunfight and they received treatment at local health complex.

The deceased, Shakib Uddin alias Malu, hails from Morapukurpar village of the upazila.

Admitting the incident Kosba police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahiuddin said a gang of highway robbers mistakenly intercepted his unit's patrol team in microbus by putting logs on the highway in the area around 2am and tried to commit robbery.

Sensing the danger, police started firing at the robbers who also retaliated creating fierce a shooting. At one stage, the robbers run away in the face of police action.

Later, police recovered bullet-hit Shakib and got admitted him to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital where physicians pronounced him dead.

A firearms, five rounds of bullet, two knives and two masks were found on the crime scene.

The OC continued that they were carrying out raids to arrest Shakib's accomplices and a case in this connection was registered with the police station.
