A young housewife has been killed allegedly by her husband and the in-laws centring dowry at Maiz village in Chauhali upazila of Sirajganj.
The sorrowful incident took place to Mariam Begum, 20, at Monday midnight and her husband Nurunnabi Mandal and the father-in-law went into hiding soon after the murder.
Mariam's brother Al-Amin Hossain submitted a statement to Enayetpur police station claiming his sister's murder appeared over dowry.
When contacted, Chauhali police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Akram Hossain said Mariam and Nurunnabi, son of Khosal Mandal, a resident of the village, got married two years ago, and since then her husband and in-laws had been torturing her demanding dowry.
At dead of the night, they beat up Mariam to death and kept the body hanging with scarf from ceiling fan to brand the case suicidal.
Being informed by locals, police recovered the body Tuesday noon and sent it to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
