Nazrul’s wife to move High Court

The widow of Narayanganj City Corporation panel mayor Nazrul Islam is likely to file a petition with the High Court on Tuesday seeking fresh investigation into the sensational seven-murder cases.

Nazrul’s wife Selina Islam Beauty, who filed one of the two cases, said she would file the plea as the police had not seek remand of the prime accused, Nur Hossain, on Friday and that the investigator dropped the names of five FIR-listed accused from the charge sheet submitted on April 8 this year.

Her lawyer Shakhawat Hossain Khan said that they were waiting for the certified copy of the District and Sessions Judge’s decision dismissing the no-confidence petition pressed against the charge sheet on November 9.

“We hope to get the copy by Monday [tomorrow],” he told the Dhaka Tribune last night. “If the court orders fresh investigation, we hope that Nur can be put on remand and the whole conspiracy will be unearthed,” he said.

The seven persons – Nazrul, his driver and three associates, and senior lawyer Chandan Sarker and his driver – were abducted by some Rapid Action Battalion men from the Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road on April 27 last year, and killed the same day.

Former Awami League-backed ward councillor Nur allegedly bribed the RAB men for murdering Nazrul with whom he reportedly had a long-standing political feud. Lawyer Chandan and his driver were killed as they happened to witness the RAB men abducting Nazrul and his associates.

Nur was placed before a Narayanganj court on Friday but the police refrained from seeking his remand which irked the family members of the victims.

Selina had filed the no-confidence petition on May 11. But the district court accepted the charge sheet on July 8 rejecting the no-confidence petition.

The other case was filed by Bijoy Pal, son-in-law of lawyer Chandan.
