The Anti-Corruption Commission yesterday interrogated Deputy Inspector General of prisons of Chittagong Ashim Kanto Pal over allegations of illegal accumulation of wealth.
ACC Deputy Director Abdus Sobhan grilled Ashim at the commission’s headquarters in the capital’s Segun Bagicha.
Requesting anonymity, an ACC official said Ashim denied all the allegations against him during the interrogation.
The complaint lodged with the ACC against Ashim is that he amassed huge wealth through illegal means after his appointment as the DIG of prisons of Chittagong.
It was mentioned in the complaint that Ashim is a corrupt government official who, with the help of his bodyguard Awlad Munsi, earned a fortune by using dishonest means in recruitment, promotion and transfer.
The ACC launched the inquiry against Ashim in 2014 and the civil servant was earlier interrogated by the commission in connection with the same complaint.
The ACC meanwhile also summoned four people yesterday to quiz them over their alleged involvement in laundering Tk216 crore to the United Arab Emirates.
