Mystery shrouds the death of a minor domestic help who reportedly died after falling off the seventh floor of a building at Malibagh in the port city yesterday morning.
Sub-Inspector (SI) of Chawakbazar police station Saleh Uddin said on receiving information police had recovered the body of Bali Akhtar Poly,13, from Max Hospital.
He told the Dhaka Tribune that Bali had been working in the house of one Imtiaj at the seventh floor of a building named “Equity Samantha” at Mehedibag for last 21 days.
He said: “Guards of building and locals rescued the girl in a critical condition in the early hours of the day in front of the building and took her to the hospital where on duty doctor pronounced her death.”
Police had recovered a scarf from the spot, said the SI, adding they were assuming that the girl might have fallen from the veranda while getting down form there.
The body was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
The SI said four domestic helps aged between 13 to 15 years, including Bali, worked as domestic help at the flat. “The maids are being interrogated to know what really happened on the day,” he added.
Quoting the maids SI Saleh said master’s wife scolded them over chaotic works and they went to sleep after that on Wednesday night.
The master Imtiaj and his two other brothers have been residing in separate flats at the building while the four domestic helps looked after their families, said the SI.
An unnatural death case was filed.
