Two shibir leaders held in Chittagong

Police yesterday arrested two leaders of Islami Chhatra Shibir in the city on charge of their alleged involvement with sabotage.

The arrested were Shahadur Rashid, 29, of Banshkhali upazila and Mohammad Ismail, 32, of Satkania upazila.

The police said they arrested the duo after conducting a raid at a house in Rasulbg Residential area under Bakalia police station.

Mohammad Mohsin, officer-in-charge of Bakalia police station, said the two leaders were involved in carrying out sabotage in the port city during the nationwide blockade programme enforced by BNP-led 20-party alliance.

“Of the two, Shahadur is accused of 23 cases while Ismail accused of four cases with different police stations in the city,” the OC said.
