A Chittagong court yesterday sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for violating a five-years-old minor girl in Chittagong district’s Satkania upazila in 2012.
Chittagong Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal 1 Judge Rezaul Karim handed down the verdict against Khokon Dash, 27, after examining the case record and deposition of witnesses, said Public Prosecutor (PP) Jesmin Aktar.
Jesmin Aktar said the court passed the verdict in absence of the convict as he has been on the run since he was released from jail on bail. The convict was also fined Tk50,000, the public prosecutor added.
According to the case statement, on October 30, 2012, Khokon Dash violated the five-year-old girl, who was his neighbour, luring her by offering to give her marbles. Later the victim’s father file a case under Women and Child Repression Prevention Act with Satkania police station.
Receiving the complaint, police placed the charge sheet accusing Khokon on January 16, 2013 while the court framed the charge against the culprit on July 7 of the same year.
