50 injured in Habiganj clash over haor

The pitched battle took place between 10am and 12pm on Friday.
Rahamtpur residents Shahid Miah, 40, Mohibur Rahman, 25, Kaium Miah, 30 and Jubel Miah 15 were severely injured by locally made spears called ‘teta’. They were admitted to MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in Sylhet while others have been admitted to Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital.
According to local sources, Rahamatpur residents Mostu Miah, son of Sher Ali, and the current member Ali Rahman, son of Idrish Ali, have been wrangling over the haor for a long time.
This dispute led to a brutal clash when supporters of both parties at one point of their quarrel began attacking each other with local weapons.
Baniachong Police OC Omulya Kumar Chowdhury said police brought the situation under control. Additional police have been deployed at the spot to avoid further incidents.
