Police have formed a committee to investigate the sensational murder of an Italian citizen in Gulshan diplomatic zone of the capital.
Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam, also the chief of Detective Branch of police, will head the committee, says a press release issued on Tuesday by Assistant Inspector General of Police Md Nazrul Islam.
An investigation assistance committee, led by CID Special Superintendent Md Rezaul Haider, has also been formed with officers of different units of the police force.
Decision to form the committees was taken at a special meeting chaired by acting IGP Mukhlesur Rahman at the Police Headquarters.
Earlier in the day, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal claimed that the law enforcement agencies had not found any link of international militant group Islamic State with the murder of Cesare Tavella.
Addressing a press conference at his office, the minister also claimed that there was no existence of IS in Bangladesh. He hoped that the killers would be traced soon.
Tavella, 51, was shot dead by unidentified assailants who came on a motorcycle in Gulshan on Monday evening. He was a project director at Netherlands-based development organisation ICCO Cooperation.
