Suspecting a housewife of having an illicit relation, locals allegedly tortured her brutally over night tied up with rope in a school on Saturday under Sadar upazila.
Sources said Shamsul Bari Khan,60, an officer of BADC entered the house of a physically challenged person at night where he lived with his wife. Sensing the presence of the officer, locals confined him and the wife of the man bringing allegation of illicit relation. At one stage, they dragged her to nearby school and tied up with rope. They tortured the woman over the night. She became senseless due to brutal torture.
On information, police went to the spot and rescued the woman. The police also handed over the woman to village arbitrators.
Helaluddin, local UP member and the head of the arbitration said locals caught the woman and the BADC officer red handed in state of illicit relation. We took the woman to the school as the local people became agitated.
Helaluddin denied the allegation of torture and said the arbitrators had met up the problem.
The victim told the journalists that Bari had entered her house forcefully and raped her. He also tried to do it several times in last few months. She alleged that the arbitrators had freed the rapist but tortured her brutally.
Bari also denied the allegation of rape brought by the woman.
Sub-inspector Rezaul of Sadar police station, said as the arbitrators had met up the incident, police did not take any action.
