A Chittagong court yesterday rejected the bail pleas of three suspected militant financiers including pro-BNP lawyer barrister Shakila Farzana in two cases filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Chittagong District and Sessions Judge SM Nurul Huda passed the order in response to the pleas filed on Wednesday in the cases filed with Hathazari and Banshkhali police stations, defence lawyer Abdus Sattar said.
Shakila, and her associates – Supreme Court lawyer Md Hasanuzzaman Liton and Dhaka Judge’s Court lawyer Mahfuz Chowdhury Bapon – were produced before the court during the hearing.
Arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion personnel on August 18, the trio admitted to depositing Tk1.08 crore to an account owned by militant outfit Shaheed Hamza Brigade leader Moniruzzaman Masud alias Don, but were unaware of the account holder.
Shakila the incumbent joint general secretary of the Supreme Court wing of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum, a pro-BNP lawyers’ body. She is the daughter of Syed Wahidul Alam, a former BNP whip and the party’s information and research affairs secretary.
