The Detective Branch of Chittagong Metropolitan Police has nabbed six members of a dope gang from the nearby area of the port city’s biggest cattle market Sagarika cattle market.
The DB’s Assistant Commissioner (Port Zone) ABM Foyzul Islam told Dhaka Tribune that the gang usually involved with mugging in the city and adjoining areas while they gathered near the cattle market targeting the cattle traders ahead of Eid-ul Azha.
Acting on a tip-off, a DB team nabbed Sohag, Rubel, Pavel, Anwar, Ajmal and Joynal – who respectively accused in several cases lodged with different police stations in the city – at around 5am, he said.
The law enforcing agency also seized three knives and some ointments from their possession, the DB official said.
The arrestees were handed over to Pahartoli police station while a case was lodged with the police station in this connection, the AC also said.
Dope gangs, muggers and forge notes brokers are being active across the city and adjoining areas on Eid occasion.
Police found several groups of frauds and miscreants from other districts are also entering into the city at this period to bag money deceiving the city people.
