A Chandpur court has ordered a six months pregnant girl, 13, to be placed in a victim support centre yesterday after she spent three days in police custody.
District Joint Sessions Judge Mamunur Rashid issued the order after Hajiganj police produced her before the court. She will be taken to the victim support centre in Gazipur, said Chandpur Superintendent of Police Shamsunnahar.
Earlier on Thursday, another court, of Judge Taslima Sharmin, had ordered that the 13-year-old be placed under police custody.
Police sources said the girl, a resident of Hajiganj municipality, was abducted by a relative named Al Amin on March 10. Her mother filed an abduction case in this regard under the Women and Children Suppression Prevention Act on April 1, in which Al Amin, his parents and sister were named as the accused.
On Thursday, police arrested Amin’s father Md Shafiq and found the girl in Gazipur based on the information Shafiq gave during interrogation.
Al Amin remains on the run.
The girl told the court that she had not been abducted and had eloped with Al Amin, before starting to live with Amin’s sister.
She also said she did not want to return to her parents’ house, which is why the court ordered her to be placed in a victim support centre.
SP Shamsunnahar said the girl feared that her parents would force her to terminate her pregnancy if she returned to them.
