Guardian beats up school headmaster in Natore

Hundreds of guardians of students of Nababidhan Girls High School in Natore formed a human chain on the school premises yesterday demanding exemplary punishment to a guardian who allegedly physically assaulted the headmaster of the school on Thursday.

Bimal Gobinda Sarker, headmaster of the school, said he had received a complaint that on Wednesday class teacher of grade seven Sanzid Kumar Pramanik scolded a student named Raisa for remaining absent in the school for long.

Raisa’s father Rentu Khandaker, called him up the same night and told to address the matter.

“I assured Rentu over phone that the matter would be discussed in the next meeting of the school management committee. However, the next morning he, along with some local goons, came to my office and beat me up in front of the Upazila Education Officer Shah Alam,” he told the Dhaka Tribune.

Rentu is known for being an associate to local MP Shafiqul Islam Shimul. Both of them reside in Kandibitua area of the city, said locals.

Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Natore Sadar police station, said he had visited the human chain and assured the guardians that steps would be taken against the accused if found guilty.
