A 12-year-old speech-impaired girl was raped allegedly by her neighbour on Thursday evening in the capital’s Uttarkhan area.
Police arrested the accused Faisal Hossain alias Rifat, 18, son of Nazrul Islam.
Victim’s family members said the girl went to her maternal uncle’s house in the neighbourhood around 9pm on Thursday. While returning home, Rifat blocked her way and forcibly took her inside his house and raped her.
After searching, the family members found her inside Rifat’s room during the early hours of Friday.
Uttarkhan police station Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Sirajul Islam said the victim’s grandfather filed a case in this connection yesterday.
The girl was sent to the One Stop Crisis Centre of Dhaka Medical College Hospital yesterday.
