A 22-year-old youth abducted his teenage cousin from Feni on Monday.
On Tuesday night police rescued the boy from a market place in Ramgarh upazila under Khagrachhari district and arrested Azharul Islam Azad in this connection.
The abducted schoolboy named Ainul Islam Ashik, 13, told the Dhaka Tribune that his cousin (son of her father’s sister) Azad had come to visit their house on Monday and took him out of the house for recreation.
They went to Mohipal area of Feni and took a bus form there to Khagrachhari. Azad kept Ashik at a house owned by a man named Kamrul in Shonaipul Bazar in Ramgarh. He told Ashik that kamrul’s wife was a relative.
On Tuesday morning, Ashik’s mother Anjun Ara Begum filed a case in this connection with Feni Sadar police station.
According to the case statement, Azad demanded Tk12 lakh as ransom from Ashik’s parents. After bargain he agreed to free Ashik against Tk5 lakh. He told them to sent the money through Bkash on Tuesday evening.
Ramgarh police station Sub-Inspector Md Manik Miya said on Monday, Azad, resident of Dakkhin Monadia village under Chhagalnaiya upazila of Feni, abducted his cousin Ashik from Feni sadar and took him to Ramgarh. Ashik’s father Nurul Amin Bhuiyan is an immigrant in Saudi Arabia.
Following the complaint of Ashik’s relatives, a police team led by Ramgarh police station Officer-in-Charge Md Mayeen Uddin Khan arrested the abductor from a Bkash centre at the Shonaipul Bazar in Ramgarh.
