Beauty Begum confesses complicity in Rakib killing

Beauty Begum, one of the accused in the brutal killing of Rakib, has confessed to her complicity in the murder of the 12-year-old who died after his former employers pumped air through his rectum.

On the second day of her three-day remand, Beauty Begum submitted her confessional statement after she was taken to the office of Khulna Magistrate Moushumi Akhtar, said Sub-Inspector Kazi Mostaque Ahmed.

In her confessional statement given under the section 164 of the penal code, Beauty admitted her involvement in the killing of Rakib, said Mostaque, also the investigation officer of the case. Beauty was sent to jail after her statement was recorded.

On Thursday, a Khulna court granted a three-day remand against Beauty Begum, whose son – also one of the suspects – owns the garage where Rakib was killed.

Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner Nibash Chandra Majhi said the investigation into the Rakib murder case was going on at a fast pace. The police are maintaining close monitoring so that justice is ensured against the true culprits, he added.

Expressing hopes that the charge sheet in the case would be submitted by this month, the commissioner said the health of the two other accused being treated at the KMCH has improved. As soon as as the hospital authorities give them a clean bill of health, the two men – Beauty’s son Md Sharif and Mintu Miah – would be produced before the court, Nibash said.

On August 3, Md Rakibul Islam was viciously killed by three adults in the city’s Tutpara area because he had left employment at their garage and taken up a job elsewhere.
