A local Jubo League (JL) member was hacked to death in a factional clash between two groups of JL in Swandip upazila in Chittagong last night.
The deceased is Monir Hossain, 28, said Swandip Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) HM Mosiur Rahman. Police detained Nizam following the incident, he added.
The OC said the clash occurred at Mogdhara Bazar of Shoholshar area of the upazila at around 7pm, while members of the rival group hacked Monir with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured.
Later, he was taken to a local hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead, the OC added.
However, the police official has not discovered the reason behind the clash, saying that police were investigating the murder.
