Police authorities have suspended Jalalabad Police Station’s officer-in-charge (investigation), Alamgir Hossain, for negligence of duty in the investigation of Rajon murder case.
He was suspended from his duty and attached to the Rangpur Police Range yesterday, as directed by the Police Headquarters, said Additional Deputy Commissioner Rahmatullah of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP).
Earlier on Friday, Alamgir was closed and assigned to the SMP Police Line, while Sub-inspectors Aminul Islam and Zakir Hossain were suspended.
Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon, 13, was beaten to death at Kumargaon on the outskirts of Sylhet city on July 8 morning.
His killers recorded the entire torture session with a mobile phone camera and uploaded the 28-minute video to the internet. The video showed Rajon tied to a pole in front of a workshop at Sultan Ali Market, continuously beaten by what seems like a group of five or six men.
A murder case in this regard was filed with Jalalabad police station, in which Rajon’s father Sheikh Azizur Rahman later became a plaintiff.
However, the police officials were accused of mistreating Rajon’s father when he went to file a case, delaying in taking appropriate action and letting prime accused Kamrul Islam go in exchange of bribe.
To look into the allegations, the SMP formed a three-member probe body on July 14, which submitted a 424-page report on Thursday.
