An on-duty Tourist Police member has been stabbed to death by a gang of muggers at Labonee point of Cox's Bazar beach.
Constable Pervez Hussain, 25, died while trying to capture a mugger, who was snatching valuables from the tourists.
Assistant Superintendent of Chittagong Division Tourist Police (Inani Sadar, Mohes Khali) Zahirul Islam said: “Hearing the hue and cry of victims, a team of Tourist Police came to rescue the tourists and chased the gang of muggers at Labonee Point on Thursday morning.
“At one stage of chasing, the criminals attacked the police members and stabbed Pervez around 7am, leaving him dead.”
The other members of Prevez's team later nabbed two of the criminal from the spot.
The detainees are-- Abu Taher, 28, and Abdul Malik, 24.
Hearing the news, Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque expressed profound shock.
