Magistrate testifies in Oishee case

The 34th prosecution witnesses gave deposition yesterday against Oishee Rahman and her two friends in a case filed over the killing of her parents SB inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and Swapna Rahman in the capital in 2013.

Former Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Muhammad Anower Sadat gave his statement before Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal 3 Judge Sayeed Ahmed.

The witness said he had recorded confessional statements of Oishee and her house maid Khadija Khatun Sumi on August 24, 2013 under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

After the deposition, the court fixed July 14 for the next witness in the case.

Police produced Oishee and her friend Asaduzzman Jony before the court from the jail. Another accused Mizanur Rahman Rony, now on bail, also appeared before the court.

Oishee’s uncle and also the plaintiff of the case Moshiur Rahman Rubel in his statement, however, claimed that Oishee had not murdered her parents. He said miscreants might have killed the couple over previous feud.

According to the case, the bodies of Mahfuzur and his wife Swapna were found at their Chamelibagh residence on August 16, 2013. Oishee, who had taken her O Levels examination, surrendered to the Paltan police station the following day. Later, police arrested their house maid and Oishee’s friends Jony and Rony.

According to the charge sheets, Oishee alone killed her parents while Jony instigated the murders and Rony gave her shelter after the incident. Juvenile Sumi is accused of assisting Oishee in concealing the bodies.
