Members of Border Guard Bangladesh have detained a person with 10 gold bars from Kakdanga border area in Satkhira.
Johirul Islam was detained around 2pm Friday. He is the son of Abu Taher Ali of Kakdanga village and a cook by profession.
Satkhira 38 Battalion BGB acting captain Major Nazir Ahmed Bokshi said: “Acting on a tip off, we conducted a drive and detained Johirul with the gold bars and a chain.
“He and another youth were going to the border area to smuggle the gold to India. However, the other youth fled the scene sensing our presence.”
The BGB official said the gold bars are worth worth Tk22.08 lakh.
