Directorate of Customs intelligence and Investigation have seized huge amount of smart watches that were brought to the country in the name of mobile phone to evade tax.
The smart watches were brought in a mobile phone freight unit by Teleport BD, holding the address of House 55, Road Number 4/A Dhanmondi, Dhaka under Agent Mithila International B/E C 171644 in the date 28/6/15.
Umme Nahida Akhter, assistant director of CIID of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, said 1,500 smart phones worth Tk 1.5 crore were brought to the country under false declaration for evading tax.
In this way, they attempted to evade tax of some Tk88 lakh, she added.
The intelligence could not be able to arrest anybody.
Legal procedure is going on to take action against the criminals, she said.
