Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members have detained five members of a gang for producing fake notes in Banasri area of the capital.
The elite force personnel also seized counterfeit notes of around Tk1.4 crore from their possession.
RAB legal and media wing Deputy Director Major Maksudul Alam said they held a ringleader of the fake currency making syndicate, Rahim, during a drive around 6am Sunday.
He said the RAB members also seized fake note making equipments during the drive.
At least 25 gangs are engaged with the crime currently, according to the Detective Branch officials.
According to Dhaka Metropolitan Police, in Dhaka only some 53 members of fake note gangs were arrested in last one year. Of them, 12 were repeatedly released on bail and got involved with the crime.
