Village doctor killed over property feud

A village doctor was beaten to death over a land property feud in Sadullapur upazila of Gaibandha yesterday morning. Five others were also injured in the incident.

The deceased is Anil Chandra Sarkar alias Manglu, son of Mahendra Chandra Sarkar from Damodarpur union of the upazila. Police detained a Maleka Begum, 55, and Surki Begum, 28, from the spot in this connection. The five injured are Ajit Kumar Sarkar, 45, Suman Chandra Sarkar, 48, Sanjay Kumar Sarkar, 18, Liton Kumar Sarkar, 20, and Susanta Kumar Sarkar, 35.

Sadullapur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Imrul Kayes said: “Doctor Manglu and Siddiq Ali of the same village have been in conflict over a piece of land for a long time. Recently, when Manglu started constructing a house on that land the two parties tried to come to a settlement through several village courts and failed. Yesterday, when Siddiq went to build a house on that land the two parties got into a clash and Manglu died on the spot.”
