A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion in a special drive jailed and fined three fake dentists and sealed off their clinics at Kawran Bazar in the capital yesterday.
The court led by Executive Magistrate Anisur Rahman jailed and fined the “dentists” Akhter Hossain, 38, Abdul Awal, 24, and GM Wahid Gaffari, 70.
A team of RAB 2 raided Al-Madina Dental Care at Kawran Bazar area where Akhter had been running his illegal clinic. Akhter had no medical background and only passed SSC. He was jailed for two years and fined Tk1 lakh, or three more months of imprisonment in case of default.
He was earlier arrested and jailed for one year by RAB’s mobile court in October 2014, said RAB 2 Deputy Director Syed Salahuddin Mahmud.
The mobile court then raided a Shamim Drug House at East Tejturi Bazar and arrested Awal for running an illegal dental clinic. He was a trainee under a dentist and now ran his own business without a medical background, said Magistrate Anisur. Awal was jailed for one year and fined Tk1 lakh.
In another drive at Kawran Bazar Super Market, Wahid was jailed for a year and fined Tk1 lakh, or serve three months more jail in case of default for running the illegal clinic Dhaka Dental Care.
